The Gibson 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Ultra Light Aged is a Custom Shop Historic build centered on a configuration that existed for exactly one year in production history: Custom P-90 Soapbar pickups paired with a no-wire ABR-1 bridge, the combination Gibson introduced in 1956 before transitioning to humbuckers in 1957. The one-piece lightweight mahogany body, 2-piece plain maple top, and solid mahogany neck are joined with hot hide glue, and hardware is period-correct throughout – no-wire ABR-1, lightweight aluminum stop bar tailpiece, and aged cellulose nitrate trapezoid inlays. The 12″ fingerboard radius and 50s Rounded Medium C neck profile give the neck a fuller, rounder feel than a modern C, with extra-rolled fingerboard binding that softens the edges without going to an extreme vintage thickness. Murphy Lab’s Ultra Light Aging treatment produces individual lacquer checking and hardware patina that simulate decades of careful use, so each example carries its own character. The P-90 Soapbars are articulate and touch-sensitive across a wide dynamic range – glassy and controlled at lower gain, increasingly raw and forward when pushed harder – making this a strong choice for players who work across blues, jazz, and cranked-amp territory. At over $3,000, this guitar ships with complimentary PLEK setup and a limited lifetime warranty from Righteous Guitars, plus the brown/pink Lifton Reissue 5-latch case.
