The Gibson Pre-War SJ-200 Rosewood is a Custom Shop historic reissue of the original 1937 super-jumbo flat-top, hand-built at Gibson’s Bozeman facility using construction methods drawn directly from pre-war practice. The thermally aged red spruce top is braced with hand-scalloped X-bracing set in hot hide glue – a process that accelerates the tonal opening typically earned over decades on a vintage instrument, so you get a more immediate, developed response than a standard new guitar delivers. Pairing that top with solid rosewood back and sides adds warmth and depth that separates this from the maple-sided SJ-200, while the jumbo body generates the wide projection the platform was designed for. The ebony fingerboard runs a 25.5″ scale at a 12″ radius, giving you a flatter board that suits open chords and medium-to-heavy strumming without fighting the string. Period-correct details throughout – four-bar Moustache bridge, mother-of-pearl graduated crown inlays, and a thin nitrocellulose VOS finish – keep the build honest to its pre-war reference point. This guitar suits a serious stage performer, recording player, or collector who wants a limited Custom Shop instrument with documented pre-war character rather than a vintage approximation. It ships new with a hardshell case, and your purchase includes our complimentary PLEK service and limited lifetime warranty.
